Back in the 1980s, this was a thing. Athletes, comedians, actors will sometimes drop a single and try to get on the charts with a song.
Possibly the greatest example of this is Eddie Murphy singing "Party all the time" back in 1985. A total banger.
Carl Lewis stepped away from the track to sing "Break it up", a catchy tune with a terrible video.
Other notable attempts were made by Patrick Swayze ("She's like the wind"), Bruce Willis ("Respect Yourself").
Why does this no longer happen?
