It will be interesting to see what Valby can do in pro races. Her approximate rounded mile splits in SEC 5K were 5:00, 4:50 and 4:40. She has lots of room for improvement in more evenly paced and competitive races.

It depends on how much effort she put in. 4:40 is 14:29 pace, so there are other runners that can hold that pace for the entire race.
She is still running faster distance times than SH did at the same age, if you want to throw water on her.
I’m not throwing water on anything. The result from going for a PR in a fast paced race, is far more meaningful than analyzing splits and effort in a slower race.

My point re negative splits is Valby has more upside potential. She probably would have run 15 to 20 seconds faster if she went out at a quicker pace. We won't really know what Valby is capable of until she's running at the next level. I wish her well to stay healthy and reach her full potential whatever that may be.

I estimate the effect of a negative split, by subtracting the difference between the last split and the average pace for the race. Her 4:40 was 12 seconds faster than her 4:52 average, so 15:08 minus 12 equals 14:56.
Good for her it's also fascinating what the shoes can do now. Too bad there's so many top elites on EPO or else a 1440 shape at the Olympics should medal. Not the case with many EPO laced though, unfortunately.

Uh, everybody is negative splitting. Nothing special about it. Check out bailey hertensteins 5k finish, same thing. Valby doesn’t even have the top 5k time, sad. She once was so dominate too.
