I have been training consistently between 45-55 MPW, depending on race and work schedules this spring with a big race coming up. How much should my mileage drop the last 5-7 days? I've read that 25-30% reduction is normal but have also heard up to 50% knowing that it will vary person to person
I usually cut workout days and normal easy runs to about 2/3rds volume. So say your normally run is 60min drop to 40min. The key is you don’t go faster but the same pace you’ve always done. If you were doing 6x400 before do 3-4x400. Before the last race i would do an easier workout like 8x200 more relaxed at 800 pace to a second faster.
