I need help. I am a Junior in high school who started running my freshman year. I have been experiencing a continual cycle of injury. My freshman year was relatively mild with a hip problem and bruising of the heel after going over hurdles didn’t have to take crazy time off. However summer rolled around and I ended up giving myself tendonitis in both knees after bombing down a mountain. I was able to run through it for the most part as long as things didn’t flare up too much (as stated by my physical therapist). However, winter came around. I end up attempting to increase my mileage to 60mpw rather quickly, and end up stress fracturing both of my shins. I take a few months off and do relatively low mileage (15mpw) for the rest of the track season. I start to strength train to prevent injury and take sleep and nutrition seriously as well. I aim for 8-9 hours a night and track what I consume to eat a balanced diet. September rolls around-I get a calf strain (maxed out at 35 mpw for 1 week and was doing 20mpw when I got the strain). 5 weeks off (re injured it after 2) and somehow managed to hurt the top of my foot after doing 400s, but I finish out my cross country season on a relatively high note. I take a 2 week break and ease back into it for indoor but end up messing up the bottom of my foot, leading to me taking another week off. Indoor was relatively increasing the mileage then backing off if my foot or shins hurt (not running till it hurts though ). I end up getting 3.5 weeks of consistent training and workouts, totaling 30mpw and think I have finally solved my issues. I have my first meet and do some barefoot running. This is something I had done before, just not in as great quantity. I wake up and it’s a pulled muscle. 2 weeks off. Eased back into it again but ended up doing something to my ankle on the curve when running the 4x4 last meet. Season is almost over and will probably call it quits now. Also not sure if it’s worth mentioning when I try to cross train, things don’t go so well either. When I bike, elliptical or row it flares up my knees, and when I swim it flares up my elbow. I need some honest input on this situation. What am I doing wrong? I strength train but don’t gain weight and keep everything running specific, I eat a balanced diet and am not deficient in anything, I get 8-9 hours of sleep every single night, even on weekends, and take time off when I need it. I really appreciate anyone who has taken the time to read and respond to this.
