I'm one of the runners in the 6A 800m race at the UIL Texas State meet on Saturday.
What advice would you give me to win this race?

Get to the finish line before anyone else.

1) Be aware. Can you excel if it is a slow race, or will you get dusted over the last 300m?
2) If you need to PR, just to have a shot at doing well, then you need to be aware of positioning. For example, stay on the line between lanes 1/ 2 until the 200m mark - Don’t let yourself get boxed against the rail if dudes are not hammering. That allows you to step out and go to the front if it is slow.
3) Don’t dwell on the race all day / the night before. Stay funny, stay happy, stay relaxed. Get dialed in a little bit with your warmup about 90 minutes out. Then, get ready to compete aggressively about 25 minutes out.
Sincerely,
David R.
a 6A finalist from TX would not need our help. second place in region III 6A was 1:52. that's basically low level college running already. "tell me how to run, website?" sure.
if you're not trolling, scout your oppo. what times are they capable of running, what splits, what type races. game plan how you beat that. duh.
Go out hard, pick it up, kick it in. Anything less and you will walk away believing you could have done better no matter where you place. Leave it on the track!
