I've got a 9th grade hurdler who will focus on the 300 meter hurdles and 1500m. At our first meet, I entered her in the 100 meter hurdles for the workout. She placed 2nd and 4 stepped the whole way.
I'm curious of a few things. How fast have you had a girl progress going from the 4 step method to 3 step? What was the fastest 100 meter hurlde time you had a 4 stepper run? I know transitioning her to 3 steps is optimal, but she is currently very confident and comfortable using 4 steps. Should we be satisfied with the abiilty to 4 step and leave well enough alone? Waiting until off season is one option, but she is also active in soccer and basketball.
I had her do some work over lower hurdles with shorter spacing (about 18" closer together) to teach the rythm of three steps. She could make 3 steps between hurdle #1 and #2, but then had to resort back to 4 steps after that. It frustrated her, and I tried to assure that learning to 3 step isn't a quick and easy process.
Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Any sites would also be great. I have used coaches ed.com with some luck, but there is currently nothing on this particular topic.
