Big loss for American running
Wow, this is big. Feel so bad for her. A "titan has fallen," but not for the reason some suspected. Really opens up the 5000 & 10000 opportunities for US runners to grab an Olympic spot.
very sad for her. devastating to happen just months away from the Olympics.
Tuohy or Valby to claim a 10k spot in Paris?

Who?
Damn that’s terrible. Gotta wait another 4 years… 😔
I think Cranny needs to go for either the 5K or 10K now. She does not need to be duking it out with Hiltz, Wiley, Johnson, Mackay, McGee, et al. Her best option is to go with the longer races.

Holy crap.

Dang. I was hoping to see her line up and run against the world's best. Wish her the best on her road to recovery. I could certainly see Valby contesting for an Olympic 5k/10k spot, although 5k might be her best event. Henes may also have a strong shot at a 10k spot, and honestly, I would really like to see Kelati battle it out with other top American women too.
Horrible. Feel bad for her, was really looking forward to her competing

I thought she was running the 5000 as her main plus the 1500 if it works?
Not to mention competing against Elle St. Pierre in the 1,500.

Man this sucks. Monson is 25 years old, coming off a career year. This would have been her prime Olympics. Just brutal timing.
It also means that the US will only have one woman with the Olympic 10,000m standard at the Trials: Weini Kelati. Katie Izzo is also currently in line to earn a spot based on cross country ranking but no other Americans have the 30:40 time standard.

does Parker Valby try again to get the standard or does she focus on the 5K?

If Valby runs close to all-out (sub-31:30 let’s say) and finishes first or second she’d get in right with points. Ditto Rodgers who’d like a good pace too. I think we’ll end up sending 3 but it does suck Monson is hurt as she was so great last year. I suppose I’m not accounting for if it’s hot.
