Is there any fitness benefit by spreading mileage over 5 days instead of 4 (i.e. running more frequently)?
I run about 35 mpw and in 17:30-17:50 fitness. I've been having 3 rest days each week because of hamstring tendinopathy.

There is definitely benefit to doing more days but only if you can do it and stay healthy. If you want to exercise more but avoid injury maybe start by adding one or two days a week of light pool running or biking.
Agree. Stick to 4 days and add a cross training day on the fifth. Great way to add a little fitness without adding mileage or stressing your body more.
7 days is best.
