Examples: San Diego State is a perfectly fine school, but compared to UC San Diego, its a bit of a let down. Way less cool library, worse academics, further from the beach, worse at most sports, other than basketball.
USC is a bit of a let down compared to UCLA. And you're paying private school tuition - hoping you'll make hollywood connections.
George Mason isn't technically in the same city as Georgetown, but its a safety school for those who couldn't get in there or George Washington. American is the safety school for those who have the money.
Not sure if I should list NYU and Columbia, since NYU is at least alright and good at sports. Ditto SUNY Cortland
Ithaca College and Cornell - hmmm.
University of New Haven and Yale - at least they both offer degrees.

Give me some more.
Ditto SUNY Cortland? It's not near NYU or Columbia.
As a Cornell Alum, I can definitively state that Cornell sucks compared to Ithaca College.
Another Cornell alum here. Cornell and Ithaca are very different schools that appeal to very different people. Ithaca College is great for music and theatre. I don't think it's a worse school than Cornell by any means. Just different.

How about Drexel which is right next to U Penn.
I meant to list it with Ithaca and Cornell, whoops
Grand Canyon University has been a thorn in Arizona State's foot for years. Their facilities are nicer, the campus is safer, and their athletics are on par, if not better then ASU. ASU rarely, if ever, plays them, even though they're literally across the street from one another. They'll say its because GCU is a 'for-profit' school even though EVERY college is technically a for-profit college. GCU's very existence and their quick rise in athletics shines a light on how historically mediocre ASU is.

That’s absurd. GCU is a joke. Their nursing program got censured by the state board because so many of their students were failing the state RN licensing exam. They recently got fined $37 million by the Department of Education and sued by the Federal Trade Commission for their misleading advertising practices.
Nationally, GCU doesn’t even have an official ranking because they are at the bottom of the barrel and giving them an exact number would be too embarrassing. Instead, US News and World Report lists them as ranked “395-435.” ASU is at 105.
ASU is classified as an R1 research university, which is the elite designation for universities that have very high research activity. GCU is only an R3.
If you want to look at sports, GCU plays in the lowly WAC, and they don’t even have a football team. Other than their basketball program, you don’t hear much about their sports. Meanwhile ASU plays in a major conference, and they just won the national championship in men’s swimming and diving.
ASU has 4 beautiful campuses in desirable locations in the Phoenix metro area, with new state of the art facilities going up constantly. GCU is located right by Maryvale, which is one of the worst neighborhoods in Phoenix. Terrible school.
