The problem I am having is that no matter how my races play out, or how fast/slow the final time is, I am always vulnerable to getting out-kicked in the final 50m
For example, I ran a tactical race the other day, final time 1:54, splits of 58-56. However, I got beat at the line during the final kick by someone with a slower personal best than myself. The race wasn't hard on my body and it was a subpar time, but I still just couldn't step on it at the end even with it being less than my best. This is something that has happened to me multiple times this season, where I end up getting caught during the last 50 meters, costing the race. When I get to that last 50m, I seem to never have the same power or speed as whoever is behind chasing me, and I get caught.
I am hoping for some advice on how to fix my issue as my state meet is coming up in 4 weeks, and I will be competing against this same runner through the qualifying rounds the entire month.
For reference: I am a highschool 800 runner with a PR of 1:51. I did that by running 53-58 splits. Pure 800 runner (haven't ran any other open events) , but consistently split 47 on the 4x4 relay.
