I am a former collegiate middle distance runner just a year out of school. In school my focus was middle distance track events (1:53 800 and around 4:00 1500) but I did run cross somewhat unseriously (~28:00 8k). These times were on about 35-45mpw. I have been casually training for a half marathon next week and am realizing I am unfamiliar enough with half marathon pacing that I'm not able to project how fast I can run. I've been on about 20-25mpw consistently since last fall but mostly just middle intensity 3-6mi jogs/tempos and a few long runs, however I did one 5k in solo training about a month ago at 18 flat. My first goal for the half was just to break 1:30 but now I am thinking that this may be too soft of a goal? Should I go for 1:25 or faster? Or should I just not worry too much about time and just feel out the race since it's my first half? Hopefully there's enough information here for a more experienced half marathoner to glean a projection.
