Anyone notice what a poor meet the Texas Relays has become? what happened? This meet used to be the gold standard for this weekend.

go woke, go broke
or something
Weather sucks in Texas, why would you want to go there tbh? Its either windy, hot, cold, rainy, or all of them in the same day. Just not a great place to PR, outside of maybe the short sprints, but that's only if its randomly hot.
The last decade they were terrible with their entries and the whole thing got so political that you couldn’t plan on what the meet was going to be. Limited heats especially for distance and you better now be too competitive. They’d maybe give you one entry per distance or field event.
Hard to book plane tickets and get a hotel a few months out thinking you’d get 20 athletes in but instead 7 get accepted.
Good to see they brought back the 10k and open up some more heats.
Still a high school meet with a college one added onto it. Who wants to rip a championship 4x100 At 9:00am?
Drake is worse for longer. Stretch that hs schedule as thin as possible over 3 days to keep butts in the seats. Add in some pro events and that was cool for awhile but they've caught on to the crappy weather situation as well. Add the NCAA Regional meet to the schedule and the SEC/LSU meet the last weekend in April and youve got a lot of schools that dont want to travel to potentially cold weather to wait around for 3 days to compete with conference and regionals looming.
Guys like Pat Henry are just fine watching the relay carnivals go dead. There are a lot of other opportunities that didnt exist before including splitting and sending your squad 4 directions any given weekend. Even saving the wear and tear on your athletes by keeping them close to home and inviting just a few good programs for a quick and manageable meet with great performances.
Does anyone know how/why the Texas Relays turned into a gangbanger convention where they wear bright-colored track suits and race their loud, annoying cars and motorcycles up and down city streets all night?
