I'm a young senior in high school (won't be 18 until December) and I am going to Texas A&M next year. I PR'ed at 15 in 5k with a time of 18:20 and this last season I built up to 55 miles per week but then injury (unrelated to running actually) and other things ruined my season and I didn't even break 19. My track PR's are 56.8 400, 2:12 800, and 5:08 1600. I weigh 170 pounds (obviously big for a runner) but that's because of swimming and weight training and that's why I'm just focusing on 800 rather than anything longer. I don't really want to lose that muscle. Now that you all have some info here's the crazy plan.
I was checking out Texas A&M's recruiting standards on runcruit.com and they said the walk on time is a 1:58 800m time. Assuming I can get approximately a 2:09 800m time this season, is it possible for me to get to that time or at least really close by next college track season. I just want to make the team by my freshman or sophomore year even if it's redshirting. Since you have five years in which you can use your four years of eligibility I want to at least be good enough to compete by my junior year of college but that's not really the point here. Basically, I need to get sub 2 by around next January or February.
I train at the gym a lot so that's my cross training, I also have a heavy swim background in high school (focus on swim is why I didn't get faster at running). I plan on getting 45-50 miles per week training, maybe closer to 30-40 when I'm racing. I will train as hard as necessary and do all the little things like strides and rest days and work on getting more sleep, etc. Ideas, thoughts, or suggestions?
