Following a light to medium effort track workout, like 7x300 40-41 w 300 walk rest in trainers, put on spikes and time trial 1x500m w pacer taking you through 300m 35s (this 500m effort uncludes 300m on straights, 200m on turns. If you hit ~58.5s begin preparing for the 800m, with a short term goal of 600m 1:14+ and races additional 400s as much for training as racing.
Wow, this guy is special. More raw ability than Lyles, but not as perfectly trained.
This is a tough call. Eventually I think he will beat Lyles, but Lyles is just about at his peak and I don’t think he’ll beat him in the 200m this year.
If the schedule is right, I’d do the 100/400 and skip the 200. That would be a unique and never done combination. 100 is a crapshoot, but he’s got a chance. His 400m and 300m WR make him a gold medal contender in the 400.
What will he do in Tokyo? He now has run 9.88/19.50/44.29! Which events would you do if you were him?

Why do you say more raw ability than Lyles? Lyles is super talented and the third fastest 200m runner ever

Probably making an assumption or two that because tebogo is from botswana hes undertrained or poorly trained. And honestly he could be right i have no idea what his training history is like lol.
Just think about it. If he can run 44, then 48-49 must be a walk in the park for him. And if he can go out in 49 then he can at least muster a 53 close. Easy 1:42. Don't understand why you can't see this.

12-15 years ago - people said the same thing about Jeremy Warner (43.mid) - he ran a few 800’s - might have run 1:49 at best. People thought Edwin Moses could be great in the 800 based on the speed and strength to run 47 flat 400H - never panned out either.
There’s very few runners that excelled at the world level at 400/800 - Juantorena in the ‘70’s and German Harald Schmid back in the 80’s - let alone 100/200/400/800.
Perhaps Tebago’s 44. Will inspire Lyles to run it more. If Lyles ran 44.29 - then he would definitely deserve a spot of US 4x400.

last year, our 4th fastest 400 runner went 44.26. Vernon Norwood.

It probably won’t happen, but I’d lean into the 400m if I were him. He has great raw speed & a leaner build. The 300m WR & this early low 44 show he has the speed endurance and strength to perform over 400m. With some specific training he probably has a mid 43 by Paris. maybe even under 43.5. The 400 is not as competitive as it once was. Tebago would have a good chance of winning gold.

Yes, I am making that assumption. I don’t think his training is bad, but Lyles has had top coaching, diet, and resources for years. I think Lyles has maxed out his ability with near 100% efficiency.

That is a poor assumption to make. Botswana is one of the most developed countries in Africa with a strong history of producing world-class sprinters. There is nothing to designate that he is undertrained.
I would do the 100/200m double if I were him. Although, the 400m has been kind of me lately with people Leaving to do shorter events. If he can go sub-44, that would be his best chance at Gold.
