I was watching some of the championship races from New balance nationals and on both the boys and girls side in the sprints I kept seeing "the bullis school".
It was extremely impressive what they were able to produce from one high school. They had a relay team in both the boys and girls championship heat of the 4x2 AND 2 teams (an a and b) in the championship heat of the 4x4. (although they scratched the b team for the guys).
They also had the individual 400m winner for the boys with Quincy Wilson, a sophomore, running 45.76 to win. A sophomore in hs who would have placed 5th at ncaa's. Wtf.
I then looked it up and saw its a private school that must recruit, but even at that, its INSANE how good they are at sprinting in terms of top end and depth.
I guess my question is just how are they so fast? Obviously recruiting is huge, but there are tons of jesuit and private schools that recruit that cannot put 2 teams in the championship heat of a national relay race on the boys AND girls side. Is the coach one of the best sprinting coaches in America just coaching HS instead of ncaa or college? I genuinely dont get it.
Also, I'm a complete idiot and don't claim to understand the inner workings of recruiting at that level, so maybe it really is a scenario of them just recruiting the best talent in the DC metro area, but it doesnt seem feasible. I've never heard of them until this year. Also with quincy being a sophomore, did he get recruited as a freshman? How does that work. The school only has 900 kids according to google, how is any of this possible?
