Yeah her coach should have had her go opposite direction on the long reps at least. That being said idk how she's not injured but she can run her way into a pro contract if she runs well rest of the season
She is Kenzie Doyle, from UMass Lowell who had her 64-lap indoor track workout featured on Track All-Access. To be fair, it wasn't eight miles of intervals, it was eight miles total (including jogging rest) but eight miles on an indoor track in one direction is overkill. It's a miracle she's not injured with running 90mpw mostly at 6:40 pace or faster
I've gotten up to like 35 laps on an outdoor track, some of them being recovery laps. I think it would be find, but I wouldn't do this workout regularly indoors.
I'd often run workouts on a 250m unbanked indoor track during midwest winters to avoid the TM. This meant around 95 laps for 15 miles total. Absolutely no big deal from an injury standpoint.

Surviving a workout doesn’t make it a good one. Such a workout will not make her any faster, but it will increase the possibility of burnout.
I thought the first response was a good one. Just change directions. If you are talking something like 1k to 2 mile threshold pace, this is sustainable. Workouts like this can just as easily be done on a treadmill in bad weather, so no reason for overkill.
Sounds like the bigger problem is that they are supposedly doing 90 miles at a fast pace every week.
