For the past couple of months, I've been running interval workouts at faster than my prescribed paces because I was going by feel. I've been able to hit consistent splits and finish each workout, so didn't really see anything wrong with what I was doing. That is, until I raced.
I'm training for a half-marathon. My goal time is sub-1:35. For example, if I am doing mile repeats at what is supposed to be that pace (about 7:15), I end up running them closer to 7:00-7:05 and feel fine. Shorter intervals might be 400s at 10K pace (about 1:42), but I'll run them in 1:36). Rest is anything from 1 minute to a 400m jog depending on workout.
Then I raced a 10K at 7:16 pace and it felt hard, which worries me because I need to hold a slightly faster pace for my goal half in a couple of months.
Am I overthinking this or should I actively try to slow down on my workout paces?
