By far the best work schedule for training is evening shift (mid afternoon to midnight). Get out for run right after work when still amped. Run all over town = right down middle of the street.
You absolutely must be asleep before sunrise,
Absolutely the best schedule for sub elite trying to get to next level.
Be warned - don't have a girlfriend though.
When I first started working as a corrections officer for the county I worked 10:30pm to 6:30am. I had about a 45 minute drive each way so had to factor that in as well. Usually got up and went for a run around noon-1:00pm. Luckily my competitive days were over so I just ran for me. I did that for two years before I got off of the Grave yard shift and went to Swing shift. I liked the Grave shift but I always felt tired and kind of out of it. I've been working the Day shift now for over 17 years and really like it.
I want to hear some stories.
Not sure what level.runner you are but it is difficult. About 30 years ago in my late 20s I worked a lot of 3rd shifts. Tough for racing to be honest...moat of. Y running would happen early evening during the summer as I recall
I've done some runs at odd hours 12 am 1am.
