If an athlete today were to take p.e.d.s from about forty years ago, an athlete would likely be caught. That does not mean, by default today's athletes are clean. You gals & guys are using incorrect logic.

There are reams of documents detailing how the East Germans doped. They were all on drugs. Her record is NOT clean. I thought everyone knew this.

There are actual written records regarding Koch's drug use, as well as German court cases describing the drugs that all East German athletes were forced to take in the 1970's and 1980's when Koch was competing.

There is no "sentiment", there are only facts. And the facts are that Koch was 100% taking performing enhancing drugs.

Why is her record still in the books then?

Next step, who is the clean female 400m record holder? If you had to risk your neck on guillotine, which female is clean? It is not as simple as you handing the world record to a likeable Brit or likeable U.S. citizen.

Cold War is over then we find out there are documents about East German athletes? You do know then West Germany often had at least one mirror athlete. West Germany in T&F and S&D usually had at least one mirror athlete, close to performance of then East German athletes. Do you believe it was impossible for then East Germans and then West Germans to communicate, Cold War?

Simple. Koch never failed a drug test because there was no out of competition drug testing when Koch was competing.

And Koch never tested positive at a meet because the East German team tested every one of their athletes before they went to a meet, and if any athlete tested positive in East Germany they weren't allow to travel to a meet that week.

And World Athletics has a look back policy of not looking back more than 8 years, and the Koch record is way older than 8 years. (Same reason why there are still other drug enhanced records from the 1980's.)
