I’ve been running for 40 years and I always choose the shoe that best meets my running needs. I don’t care what color it is. A woman in the store next to me asked the sales rep “do you have this in another colt?” She did this for several shoes.
Absolutely! I always ask for a color I prefer. But if I have a shoe I like I wouldn't purchase another shoe just because they didn't have my color preference. Those people are psychopaths.

In 2023, many models come in numerous colors, for example:
I did everything I could to get the Alphafly 3 in the Proto colorway when I saw the next release. The shoe really looks like a hideous high heel for the next release in neon. I'm still looking at my Alphafly 3 Proto from time to time telling me that these are the most beautiful shoes I have ever seen.
probably a soccer thing but i would identify shoe models i liked and then see if they had something cool in them. i had fluorescent spikes in HS. but if the shoe is better you go with that.
also, stuff now comes in endless colors, and you can cynically try things in stores and then if depressed with style in stock, go order it online.

Shoes?
Yes, absolutely buy them for color.
Running shoes?
I take it into consideration, yeah. I'm not a pro, so I'm not buying some crazy expensive model. I'm just running for health.

Psychopath is a bit of an exaggeration don’t you think ?
Yes. Fashion is a thing and has been around for more than 40 years.
I agree that color doesn't really matter if it's your preferred shoe or you find a great shoe on clearance. However, looking coordinated isn't a bad thing. If I can, I try and get racing shoes that don't massively mismatch my club/team uniform.
The post above about the Nike Alphafly 3 Proto is spot on. The crazy volt/blue/orange one coming soon is objectionable compared to the white proto color. We'll still see the neon machine on everyone's feet because of the hype train.

I'm a middle age male who ordinarily doesn't care about fashion.
However, I pretty much insist on white running shoes for trainers and definitely for race flats and spikes.
White shoes look fast. Look fast, feel fast, run fast. I will make an occasional exception for neon yellow. No blue, orange and definitely never, ever, ever black. If you are going to wear black running shoes they better be spikes, you better be black, and you better run a sub 11 100 meter dash.

Yes, when I go horseshoe shopping, I’m often asking them if they “have this in another colt”.
