Absolutely insane and a travesty: UK Athletics won't send Guy Learmonth - A Scot - to World Indoors in Scotland

What is honestly the cost of this guy racing at a home World Indoors? He ran 1:44.8 last year and that puts him in the mix at World Indoors in any cycle.

I wouldn’t send him just because he appears to have a terrible attitude. He says he hates the sport and cannot wait to be done. Well good riddance.

They can't even use their "to contribute to medal success or finish in the top eight" policy as an excuse since if you look at his championship record his last 2 800m campaigns were 6th and 8th. Furthermore, his current SB (which he ran while sick) would make the final of the last 5 World Indoors. Plus it would literally cost nothing extra to send a Scotsman to the championship in Scotland, plus he was the only person qualified on ranking who was not selected, the other 4 athletes were added to the team. This has to be personal. If anyone recalls, they refused to select him for the World Indoor team in 2016 as well and he had qualified.

They definitely have their favourites and athletes they don’t like for whatever reason. They’ve done this before and makes them look unprofessional - they are a shambles.

Why can't Scotland step up and send him. I can't stand Team GB and UK Athletics crap. the monarchy is dead. Let each country live and breathe like in Football and Rugby.

Seb Coe should have a word with the fed. The whole point of world rankings was to make them matter as a legit way to qualify. The standard is supposed to be for the exceptional who has one shot at a race cause they've been injured.

One of the most grotesque aspects of this is that someone or someones at British Athletics derives a sense of satisfaction from doing this to one of their athletes.

The worst part is that UKA aren't sending anyone at all in the men's 800. An event where we have so much history.

There might be something personal with this, as there seemed to be with Alex Bell's exclusion from Budapest. But I think this is UKA trying to make a point about their qualification standards. They've had a hard line for the last year that athletes need to meet the qualifying times or demonstrate top-8 potential if they want to be selected. From their POV, they'll say they are just holding the line, showing others that there's no wiggle room.

But UKA has a responsibility to put on a show at a home games. Every event should have at least one Brit, as is allowed by WA rules for host nations. UKA seems to have not understood that they have a duty to generate home interest in this event. As a body, UKA continues to be an absolute shambles

They could use this excuse if they hadn't sent several people that definitely won't get top 8 and if he wasn't the sole qualified athlete not selected.

Imagine naming your son Guy and then they identify as a female later in life. That would be funny.
