This was poorly put. As animals, octopuses and spiders are related, but the 8 legs of a spider and 8 arms of an octopus are not related, if that makes sense. The last common ancestor of these species did not have 8 limbs, and the evolution of the 8 limbs occured after the species diverged evolutionarily. This differs from something like mammals' forelimbs (our hands, horses' hooves, bats' wings, whales' flippers etc), where the common ancestor had a forelimb, and the descendents modified this existing structure.
