You tend not to see taller runners because the taller you are, the more you weigh, and more force is applied to your joints, muscles and connective tissues. It's also harder on your heart to be tall, as your blood has to circulate through a larger distance.

Shorter people tend to live longer, although it isn't as simple as what I wrote above, because there are multiple competing theories as to why:

At longer distances, you tend to see shorter athletes (most East Afrian runners are well below the average height for Western men. This article gives a really plausible reason: when it comes to the marathon, your weight matters more than your height:
