Many of you probably remember non-binary runner Cal Calamia from their battle to race the Chicago Marathon after being reported to USADA for testosterone usage. Well Cal is now courting more controversy, after winning the NB division of the NYC Marathon in 2:48:46, NYRR is refusing to pay out the $5,000 prize money after adding the stipulation that the winner had to have completed six previous NYRR races in order to be eligible.
Cal has now made an Instagram post calling out NYRR for this change in policy. What stood out to me is that Cal is now trying to fundraise their lost prize money and is actively soliciting donations. No matter where you come down on the non-binary policy or NYRR's actions in this instance, I personally cannot imagine a less compelling charitable cause to donate to.
