Which profession talks the most pretentious rubbish?

Humanities and social sciences is full of it, though there are exceptions like linguistics and sub-fields of other disciplines; basically any field that is not very mathematical or technical in a STEM sense devolves into gibberish speak in that the insiders understand and revel in it, but the rest of the world doesn’t need to care.

Outside academia, sales and marketing and management has a ton of verbal diarrhea, but they do what’s needed to make a difference to the bottom line, so that’s something for those who value it.

Let's run posters.

Many try to sound smart and superior by putting down people and professions that are not exactly like their own.

They have even been known to use such as pretentious phrases as
"It’s more archaic than early 20th century legalese and is sometimes up there with James Joyce’s “Finnegan’s Wake" in an attempt to appear something that they are not.

The common person doesn't know this but it's economics. They have been wrong on. The weather 24/7 for the last 4 years. there's literally no occupation where u can lay an egg for 4 years and still hold a job.

people clamor oh climate crisis. geopolitical yaz. Gender this, race that. ww3. our worst end of world crisis is FINANCIAL.

Zandi , Obama advisor, standford is so clueless it makes me want to barf. there's an NYU professor runner - we've been making gentleman bets last 5-6 years. literally, he's never won one against this trader.

they KNOW NOTHING. how the Fed actually pretends is beyond me. did you know Alan Greenspan never ever read a single subprime mortgage package?

the problem is history doesn't repeat. These buffoons. it only rhymes. learn fr the last but apply what u kno to the present but think thru all the new variables and best guess.

Deconstructionists

I did some volunteer work one time on a team with some marketing/PR people. Everything out of their mouth was like a parody of goofy corporate speak. Like ok buddy, I'm right with you on our need to leverage our deliverables to optimize the optics of our actionable items, so let's circle back ASAP.

As a lawyer, I nominate lawyers. There's so-called "Legalese" i.e. repetitive and hyper-exact language, which becomes nigh-incomprehensible: that's one problem. We also have a lot of old French and Latin terms and concepts that could easily be replaced with sensible English equivalents that everyday people might have a chance of understanding, though I will say there has been some improvement lately in that regard. But worst of all, lawyers just love to hear themselves talk, so even casual conversations among lawyers very often devolves into competitive one-up-manship, interruption, belittling each other, etc. etc. God I hate lawyers.

I have a few pet peeves from marketing speak:

1. If a store is having a sale, it is now across the board called a “doorbuster” — fine if that term played better back in 2007, but hasn’t the fun worn off already?

2. Every company wants you to “unlock” these great offers. Really? Again, it was new and fresh to say it that way several years ago, now it is tired and it kinda insults my intelligence. I think “no, please keep your crappy discount under lock and key where it belongs.”

And one pet peeve from medicine:

1. An absolute bullcrap misleading term is to use “standard of care” when they really mean “standard practice”. “Standard of care” makes something sound like the gold standard of best possible care (i.e. The “Standard of care” in dentistry is to x-ray the patient’s head and mouth once a year.)

What they really mean is “Standard practice” (i.e. “Standard practice in dentistry is to x-ray even young kids, because we get to bill insurance for that, and it doesn’t matter one bit if our likelihood of finding anything actionable is next to zero, that’s standard practice and if you don’t like it, we don’t care.”)

Human Resources/Benefits departments. All the acronyms they use that people are supposed to understand, then all the marketing labels they throw on everything: premium, plus, premium plus, plus premium, preferred premium plus, enhanced plus+, deductible, co-pay, balanced, cross, value. It's largely mumbo jumbo.

And, of course, the medical profession. Virtually everything they say has some high degree of BS and misleading nonsense.

It's consulting, and it's not even close:

As a lawyer - I'd say lawyers. There's a bit of a push to ditch the rubbish and speak plain English. However, there's a large contingent of pretentious d-bags that hold onto the old ways.

Pro Wrestling does a good job of it.

Rappers. Everything they say is complete rubbish.

Never mind the archaic language. The job of a trial lawyer is to argue against truth, as the opponent does the same. Exclude inconvenient facts, distort admitted evidence to best suit the client.

Social media influencers

Teaching (elementary school) has to be the most fluff, padded, fake job I've ever seen in my life. None of the teachers in my friend circle could last 12 months in a competitive just stressed business or engineering setting.

I came in here to say "lawyers" and found I'd done it already over a year ago! A year further into my practice and I can say, I haven't changed my mind on any of this.
