I am testing to enter a police academy in about 10 weeks. I have to run 1.5 miles in 15:50. I have never been a runner, but I have been weight lifting for about three years. I have started running in intervals, at least four times a week for about a month. I have been mostly using a treadmill. My best time so far was just under 17 minutes. I did that by running for 5:00 minutes straight at a 6.0 speed, then slowed down to 4.0 speed for two minutes, then back up to 6.0 for two minutes until completed the 1.5 in those intervals.
I really want a more structured plan to reach my goal time. My struggle has been with being able to run for the entire distance at my goal pace. I can do it a jogging pace without having to slow down or walk, but have not been able to run continuously at my goal pace of 6.0
I have 10 weeks and can run up to 5 times a week. I am also still weight lifting as well. Another component of the fitness test is to sprint 300 meters in 1:15. I have not tested my self on this and have not worked on sprints at all. So any tips for that exercise would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks in advance.
