Narve Nordas Training

he does what all the ingebrigtsens do. not really any variance at all. He talks about it quite a bit in a long interview on letsrun podcast. I think it was probably last may or june. look it up and have a listen if you're a fan. im not a fan (don't dislike), and found it to be a very good interview.

Yea I knew that. I was just wondering is there any details that anyone knows of. They don’t do the basic model since Gjert has switched it up a bit.

I believe he also does body weight nut curls in the gym

correction, he does weighted nut ups

He tries to avoid asphalt and treadmill as much as possible. And also posed that he’s trying to up his milage even above 122 miles a week, yes substantially upping it in the future…

By this you mean he avoids asphalt and chooses to treadmill as much as possible (like jingy) or avoids the treadmill?

Mondays: 2 easy runs, sprints.

*tuesdays: double threshold (faster session in the afternoon)

wednesdays: 2 easy runs, sprints

*thursday: double threshold (faster session in the afternoon)

fridays: 2 easy runs.

saturday: hills 2x 10 x 200m and a run that is between easy/threshhold.

sunday: long run (ca 20k) + strength training -> with weights.

*roughly 2.0 in lactate for the morning session, 3.0 for the afternoon session.

easy runs should be done on a soft surface/trail/gravel

Moreover, he has mentioned that he does/did Rodal’s session for strength training (google on rodal styrke on youtube).
And he/they have also mentioned that they do one session with hurdles/stairs for elasticity training.

-> the sprints are done with spikes or similar shoes. jakob/filip has also mentioned that they do this in interviews and you can see it on the tv show (team ingebrigtsen)

-> from february 2019: Narve started to run faster on his easy days (3:50 m/km) Henrik/Filip/Jakob does the same. Henrik explains the theory behind of why they run relatively fast in an interview from 2020.

-> narve try to avoid to run on hard surfaces too often, because it increases the risk of injury too much. Henrik mentioned that running too much on hard surfaces was one of the reasons to why he got injured when he studied in the U.S.

-> narve (and the ingebrigtsen) uses lactate and speed to control the Intensity.

Says he hates the treadmill due to how boring it is and also says that it is also too stiff. Does his morning thresholds on dirt instead of on the treadmill

Can you link that interview? Or maybe you remember what the reasoning was?

Very interesting. For the weight lifting does he use any actual weights or just exercises like the ones in the Rodal Stryke video on YouTube?

Something I found interesting from this interview with Gjert is that Narve just used races as his track work in the early part of the season. No track sessions.

Instead he did one race every week for five weeks between May and June. And he got better with each race. First race was a 3:35 PB. The fifth race was a 3:29 PB.

Obviously he does track sessions at some point in the season but it's cool to see how he could chip away at his PB by just racing himself into shape.

Actual weights.
If you Google on ”Filip Ingebrigtsen deler sitt styrkeprogram” you see the kind of exercises they do. They also show the same strength training in the tv-show. The podcast ”i det lange løp” also have an episode dedicated to strength training for runners where they speak to some if the norwegian stars within running

I dont know if one should take his word on that point. He has been very reluctant to share what they do leading up to the track season when the norwegian journalists have asked him for details.

Narve also mentions it in the podcast that somebody linked above. The races were typically on Saturdays which is when they'd normally do an alternative session to threshold. So those early season races essentially replaced his track sessions.

But as you suggest, maybe they're keeping some things secret. What they do during the pre-competition period is what separates them from everyone else that copies their training.

Avoids both to some extent -runs in the woods if possible.

Which makes some sense if he is training mostly by himself. Have often felt that those in a group (because they can race their workouts) can race less often, compared to those training solo who need to race more often to compensate for that race quality in workouts.
