Reported by folks in Orlando. Any LRC peeps know the truth?
Yes. They cut it last night to 7ish. People just waited til the rain stopped and then went out and ran again. Now they’re bragging about finishing a half. Can I add all my doubles and triples and just say I ran a marathon everyday? I ran 16 in the AM and 10 at night, but that’s still 26. Hey. What about if I do a 10 tonight and 10 in the morning after a rest? Can I call it a 20 mile run? Because that is exactly what they did.
yes. Called for rain and some wind. Not the first time. It’s actually common for this race to do that.
Concerns about lightning and safety of participants. Seems like a legit reason, but still sucks for those who expected the full distance.
Not really a good excuse. If there is lightning and it is a legitimate dangerous situation, you cancel the whole race or postpone it. Shortening the distance still puts people at risk.
I believe the Disney races are held over multiple days over the weekend. Just push the half marathon to Sunday and run it in tandem with the marathon. If there is a concern that the courses overlap or could cause logistical problems, set up a makeshift finish line at the half marathon point of the marathon and just run them all as one big group. Lots of marathon/HM races are run in this manner.

Orrrrr. and hear me out...just make it a 12k (roughly) and be done with it.. Too bad they couldn't just actually make it a 12K (7.4x mi ?)
Probably transportation and start line logistics and other factors made combining the races difficult not to mention peoples travel schedules.

You guys can be mad all you want. The race was called because people walk the half in 4-5 hours and the rain was expected 4 hours into the race. Anyone finishing in a reasonable time would have been back at their hotel by then. This is not a race. People walk the half. Stop and eat. Stop and take pictures. Wait for the rides to open. Then they finish. So yeah. They could have just said finish in 4 hours which is more than reasonable but they cut the course for everyone.
I’m surprised you guys are supporting the runners doing 11k and still virtue signaling their half medal. Btw, if you remember, disney started their virtual marathon and said NO PROOF needed to be submitted. People are just paying for the medal.
That was a decent event back in the day. Prize money, at least a handful of elites every year, and some decent times. Certainly not a race, but rather a mass participation event. A Disney money grab.

You might be a beginning runner so you may not know this but a marathon is longer than 26 miles. So your claim would be false no matter what you try to add up.

Maybe because what he says doesn't make sense or take into account all factors?
"If there is lightning and it is a legitimate dangerous situation, you cancel the whole race or postpone it. Shortening the distance still puts people at risk." - Not if the shortened race is over before the lightning.
"Just push the half marathon to Sunday and run it in tandem with the marathon." - What about the people who were running the half on Saturday and then flying home either later that day or Sunday?
