Muhumed crossed the line as first American at Austin Cross Champs, but was dropped by Wildschutt, Kurgat, Kiptoo & Hicks in the business end of the race. His teammate Abby Nichols closed for fourth, 17 sec behind Izzo.
A few others:
Cailie Logue & Amanda Vestri--finished sixth & seventh in the NCAA Outdoor Champs 10000m last year.
Ellie Shea--10th and first American at Bathurst (U20).
Allie O--Wild card. Her last race was a 52 min 15k in March 2023
Gene Dykes--75 yrs old and still killing it.
I have a faint (silly?) hope that Tuohy finds her inner Hassan and hops into this one. Dylan Jacobs as well.
I spoke with Macchia and her Grandfather just before Christmas. Her training right now is geared toward world XC.
There's another thread implying her current training geared towards burnout.
Full disclosure: I coached her mom for her last 3 season of HS running. While Z does race a lot, I don't think the training is anything setting her up for burn out. While she was out in CA visiting the grandparents, she came and did some runs with our team. Nothing crazy, no programmed hard workouts. I think she's using these races AS her workouts
That list is comprehensive! I saw a guy I know of in my area who is in his 70's and can't run 12 per mile. If he breaks 30 on a road 5K he had a great day!
