I hate the standards. A guy runs the standard. Everyone tweets about it amd the news reports that he is auto qualified. A week later he is 4th on his team and is no longer qualified.
Looks like a few people achieved drake standards yesterday at Dickinson relays, including Moustafa Tiea and Quentin Nauman on the distance side. Tie ran 4:19.89, and nauman ran a 1:55 high.
I think it’s fair to say the season is off to a fantastic start with lots of fast times across the board, including notable performances from freshmen and sophomores. 17 kids under 4:30 in limited meets the first week of March is awesome. The #21 time by the Drake cutoff is going to be pushing 4:20.00 for the first time ever. The weather we’ve enjoyed this winter can’t have hurt.
Ankeny boys look like they’re gonna be a force this year with 3 kids running 21.38/21.42/21.77 already + the state XC champ opening with a 4:16.
That's barely faster tham his XC time. I was expecting 14:30.
He was a little too ambitious, leading the section early and splitting 4:36 and 9:22 through 1600/3200. Might have been good for low 14:40s with better pacing, at least on a good day. Still pretty, pretty, pretty good for a sophomore in March.
