When I was 17, I was a 400m/800m type. I'm 6'2" and 165 lbs. 17 years old times:
400: 51 seconds
800: 1:58
Mile: 5:03
5K: 20 minutes
When I was 15, my first 400m time was 54 seconds and my first 800m time was 2:26. In one season, I got quick newbie improvements and cutdown my 800m time to 2:06.
Fast forward to now, I am 35 and I've spent the past 4 years distance running. I got back into it when COVID hit. I just ran a 5K in 16:55 last weekend and my marathon PR is 2:53.
I haven't done any sort of training for distances under 5K. I might still have passable leg speed, I don't trust Garmin/GPS for quick sprints, but I can do 15 second strides at under 4:00/mi pace without too much difficulty.
What is a test I can do before Saturday to see what kind of 800m shape I'm in? Wismith has a race equivalency calculator that points to 16:55 for a 5K being equivalent to 2:13 for the 800m.
I feel like I need to do something like try to run a 400m in under 60 seconds to see what it feels like but wasn't sure if someone had suggestions.
