Yang, China, is a 14:12/29:34/1:05:26/ runner, incredible improvement here! Turtle soup may be compensatory.

Previous record:
2:07:30 He Jie 19 March 2023 Wuxi Marathon Wuxi, China
Yang, 2:07:09- That was a new Chinese National record, beating He Jie's recent time in Wuxi.
China is approaching Japan, but still nowhere near Japan's depth.
"Interesting" improvements is how I would characterize it. Sudden post-covid boom of ok marathoners: just the shoes? a return to the Ma Family Army type reality?

Is that the highest ever placing for a Chinese man at a major marathon or at least the highest placing at a major marathon run outside China?
Fast run, although where is Moen now as far as Europeans go? Seems middle of the pack of the top guys. In Valencia just had 9 Europeans go faster than Cheptegei, all with solid runs, with 4 of them going faster than Moen.

8. Paquet 2:08:49
9. Sesemann 2:08.49
Choquert, France, not Choquet, and he gets more money from his duathlon (bike/run) career. He's a hybrid with "limited" (13:53/28:21) track speed.

Valencia is an "artificial" time trial course. Had Navarro and company taken part in Fukuoka, no way they would have achieved those times, above. No way.
How do you explain majority of the field through half in pb speed and holding on?
Not taking anything away, but it's an anomalous course, just like Gydnia, Poland, 2020 W.C. Half Marathon, with ridiculous PB's.

It looks like he ran 2:13 in 2019, 2:11 in 2021 and 2:07high earlier this year, so it's not a ridiculous progression. Of course he could be doping like all of them.

It must be .... and Canova has nothing to do to it. I think I remember he told the Chinese were too lazy for his proper training , lol. ))
Renato was probably instrumental in getting the Chinese marathon program in the right direction and he said that they had promise but that there were organizational problems with the federation.
