Well, how about:
Lyles with 3x Gold
Richardson's comeback with 2x Gold
Anna Hall not winning gold was a disappointment.
Valby needs to do something of note on the track before I really view her as having an impressive year when compared to other collegiates and pros. Maybe next year!
As for Mu, I wouldn't t put her in any category. She wasn't heavily favored at Worlds, so not really that super disappointing to "only" get bronze, plus she finished strong with another AR at Pre. Oh, and silver in the 1500s at USAs with a decent time. Hard to call that a truly disappointing season unless someone wants to fixate on her lack of racing.
On the men's side definitely Nuguse at one extreme, and how about the entire 800 squad at the other extreme?

Nguse flopping at worlds is a disappointment for sure. He or the posters here can slice it anyway they want, but he was not close to medalling when he had a fantastic regular season.
So, Nuguse sets an AR in the mile and finishes 5th at Worlds and it's a impressive season. Mu sets an AR in the 800 and finishes 3rd at Worlds and it's a disappointing one. Hmmm...
Richardson - great comeback year no doubt!
Richardson comes back in more ways than just running fast. Happy to see a turn for the better in grace, humility and relatability to a lot of people who really wanted to cheer her on but couldn't.
Crouser and Duplantis werent perfect but really close.

American men 800. Really? 400 not far behind.
So many seats to fill at Hayward and all of the complaining that goes along with it. I tried and did my best to fill a seat as often as possible. Wish mor would/could join in. Looking forward to a lot more opportunities in 24 but expectations are low.

^Sure, this is colored with recency bias. But for distance running (a niche sport which this site originally catered too mainly), and for collegiate distance running in particular, we just had the biggest annual race that all the distance runner athletes are thrown into.
This isn’t lets-swim, lets-volleyball, or even lets-sprint. So you can disagree if you wish, that’s fine.

Doesn’t winning the NCAA championship count as something of note?
Abby Steiner. She runs the AR in the indoor 200m. Runs 10.90 and 21.77 outdoors and then after a promising start picks up a bone spur and can’t even come close to her 2022 performances. And has to cut her season short for surgery. That was hugely disappointing.
Hopefully she comes back healthy with big new pr’s in 2024.
Ditto for Britton Wilson and Katelyn Tuohy. They were brilliant indoors and at the start of the outdoor season before succumbing to fatigue and/or injury. I’d love to see Wilson go under 49 next year and win a medal in Paris. Would be great to see both Tuohy and Valby go under 15:00.

Nuguse clearly had a huge breakout year and that matters if you're thinking about expectations vs results within the context of careers.
And he set the AR. Mu didn't. I'm not sure why multiple people in this thread think she has the AR. If we're going to talk about standards, you should know that the sport is within World Athletics and AR doesn't stand for "American Record" in track.
