I have a big race in like 6 hours and I cannot sleep. I am so excited about this race! Someone please give me advice on how to relax the night before a race?!?!?!

I can never sleep the night before a race. I usually get 2-5 hours and race fine. I just make sure to sleep well the rest of the week before.

As a runner and a coach I have found that most trained runners have no problem still doing well with less that average sleep the night before a race. However, to deprive yourself two or more nights in a row is going to hurt performance.
When I competed and what I coach is this:
YOU FOCUS ON GETTING A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP AND MAYBE A LITTLE EXTRA THE NIGHT BE BEFORE THE NIGHT BEFORE A RACE....
Forgot to add I have even raced well on no sleep the night before...once had to drive from Kansas to a race in Oklahoma and got a late start...thought that if I went to sleep for an hour I would feel like crap after reaching a deep sleep and getting woken up...so I just stayed up...results...good race, good place, and a long nap before driving back to Kansas.
especially before a marathon. and running in a different time zone (i'm west coast) makes it even worse. but in the morning how much sleep you got is the last thing on your mind.
I can't sleep the night before a race either. Butterflies galore. But that probably means you're prepared and you're excited because you know you have a shot at a good time. When I'm in terrible shape I don't get nervous before races because there is nothing at stake. You're adrenaline will more than make up for a lack of sleep.
I used to be like that, 15 years ago. You get older and the juices start to crank on race morning versus the night before.
Go figure.
Oh yeah, 930 for a 2mile is slow. I once ran a 917, and i stopped at the 1600 to go number two. I'll race you anyday, sleep or no sleep, you washed up filthy gobbler.
i cant sleep the night before a race either, but then again im an insomniac who can never sleep
