Just did my city’s annual 8k Turkey trot and did well. Finished towards the top. The head wind was utter hell though so everyone’s time was slower. Mine was about 90 seconds slower than last year. Personal best in this particular race is 29:29. I can’t seem to get into 5:40s, 5:30s pace and seem stuck around 6 minutes or just over for a good portion of the race. I’m 25, male, been running since I was 20 so not too long. Never had a coach because I didn’t run in school. I’m self coached but I know the workouts I do are more just like winging it. I do 60-70 miles per week with a long run every so often at different paces throughout, as well as tempos and intervals. I hope to one day get close to the top of the mountain in that race and even if I don’t win, just as close to winning as I can possibly get. What would be a proper training plan that I should do consistently? Also want to point out I do more than just 8k, I do half’s and planning to do a full marathon in may. But my main focus is on the 8k. I appreciate all the answers. Happy Thanksgiving.
