I feel like it'll be a strength based athlete who runs a good (relatively of course) mile compared to the 3k, a worse 5k compared to the mile, but doesn't have the most leg speed.
That being said, if only a mile and 5k athlete were racing and had the same 3k PR, I'd pick the mile athlete ~80% of the time depending on their individual strengths - I feel like the 5k athlete couldn't run away in an unpaced 3k so the miler would typically have a better kick, but on occasion, mainly if the pace is fast, the fast pace takes away too much from the miler as opposed to the 5k athlete so he can't summon his usual kick
