The fact that it would require the proverbial miracle means that it ain't gonna happen. They'll either race too conservatively or too aggressively with said miracle in mind.
I don't think that would be enough. Perhaps a reasonable hope is Tuohy very high, Bush, Stephens, Tyynismaa 20-30, Hartman 40-45. That is close to 120 points, and I think NAU capable of <90. NC St slips a little from that and BYU could be right with them for 2nd on a good day.
NCSt needs to put three in the top 25 to keep hopes alive. Long shot.

Makes sense to me. 30 min ago, I had Stephens 20th, Chmiel 9th and Tuohy on the podium. Bush and Tyynismaa have to step up big. Time to revise my indiv top 20 projections....
Henes said that Sam Bush is back. I think SB (when healthy) is the most clutch runner they have. If AT can close out a race, they can put 3 in the top 20. Definitely possible for them to still score in the 80s.
How sad for Chmiel. Henes said that this has been emotionally hard on the team. They will rally.
View Tuohy's face as they boarded the bus. Does it give her fuel ("Win it for Kelsey") or does it weigh on her>
I wondered the same; she looks upset. I was surprised that photo was chosen, actually. Now we know why. This is a major blow to the team. I hope they can channel that energy and run their best.
Does this officially kill NC State's 3-peat dreams? Or is their still a miracle path to victory?
It will take a miracle now.
HOWEVER, as I mentioned in a previous thread, NC State has been helping Tynissma along, but the expectation is “come Nationals, you need to race, the team needs you” (or something like that is what I said). Tynissma will finish top-10.
NC State has a shot. It actually makes it more exciting than last year.
Chmiel did a great service to NC State over the years. I wish her the best!
Henes said Tuohy is in the best shape of her life. Now that the team win is unlikely, she’s not going out conservatively, she’s going for that 1 point.

The runners and their coach understand that it’s not possible to outrun talent and fitness. No strategies will change as a result of Chmiel not running.
