I’ve read the amazing 5x60m thread and have been trying to implement a speed development day each week. I get injured incredibly frequently from this type of work. Once every 3 or 4 weeks, I tweak something. I’ve tried several different progressions, warming-up a variety of different ways, hills or flat. It doesn’t matter. I injure a glute or a hamstring every few weeks. Often when I am trying to push max speed, something gives.
I see the value in this work, so I want to make it a part of my training, but at this point it doesn’t seem worth the risk. I most recently injured a hamstring while doing 6 x 10s hills with 3-4 minutes of recovery. The hamstring went on the 6th rep.
How can I use speed development in a safe way without getting injured?
