JG: "alright... I dont think Kiptum is a 3:55 Miler..." RJ: "You dont think if he trained for it?" JG: "well, alright if he trained for it, maybe..."
Sorry, in what world is a guy who ran 27:52 from 30-40K, sub14's in the Marathon and low4:20's at points(as the 4:18 split was wrong), not able to run 3:54 or better?
This is the same BS we get from people saying "who would win over a HM, Jakob or Kiptum?", regardless of what your stance is not if he is doping, I think people are still vastly underestimating KK's abilities/fitness, based on the fact he's staying to longer distances atm.
i think it's realistic to say on the day he ran the world record, he could not run a 3:55.
There is a reason most of these marathon guys do not run multiple distances. We do not even see M guys crushing halfs. they are lacking gears. They might have 1.5 or 2 gears versus the 4 or 5 gears that guys like kiplimo and Yomif possess.
Though the girls seem to have a different kind of skill set altogether. They are all relatively weak at 400/800, but can carry their strength through more distances.

I completely get your point, but I feel like we just haven't seen him race enough to make this assertions about his abilities. He is a very raw talent and most likely moved to Marathons out of a search for money/making teams rather than lack of speed - dude has run quicker 10K splits from 30-40K than his outright 10K or 10,000m PR, so he obviously didnt move up because he didn't think he could get any quicker.
Also, the way in which he can change the pace and explode forward in the Marathon shows that he's clearly not a one-gear runner or just hoping to hold as close to an even split as possible like most Marathoners - we cannot compare him to others, this is someone who actively gets bored and drops solo sub60's in the second half of races. Kipchoge can't even do that. I would love to see him in a fast 10,000m and just feel his talents (clean or not) are being really undervalued because of the limited results we have for him.

i would love to see it as well. all we have to go on is speculation at this point. none of those guys ever venture out.
I'm concerned that Rojo is looking more and more like a tired middle-aged dad that just wants to be left alone in his den with NFL Sunday Ticket and a half rack of Bud Light.

sounding like it too. he peaked with tokyo, and hasn't been as ambitious since
