As the parent of an arguably talented runner, I'd be curious to know

Make sure if you make a recruiting post that you proof read it… you are recruiting students for a college education.

Please do. I recommend making your objective times stricter than you otherwise would though because you are going to receive many inquiries. If you normally start scholarships at 4:20 and walkons at 4:25, drop them down a bit because you will get dozens of 4:20 guys expecting money. I coach at a Power 5. I get at least 100 extra kids around our scholarship standard which is why I am in the process of lowering it. There have been many unrealistic posters recently on Letsrun. I assume that most are former D3 distance runners who don't understand how to distribute a limited number of scholarships amongst multiple event groups. That is another reason to be cautious. If you are only a distance coach, you have a limited number of scholarships to administer and you now will be able to get faster kids at the same scholarship level by doing some advertising.
Yes. It will greatly increase the pool of kids that you can consider. There are so many false claims here about kids getting scholarships. Then there are all of the coaches and parents and athletes who can't find a home.
Why not? Ignore the trolls, keep the posts on-point, and above all, don’t try to showcase your personality and instead be extremely professional. If you choose to use sarcasm or try to be funny, you’ll just egg on the hate. If you are thinned-skinned, I’d pass.

Yes, why not? I have a runner who may be interested....
51.2 (open), 1:56, 4:18, 15:32 (10+ sub 16:00, so not just one course)
Grades less than desirable, but works hard. 2.9 gpa.

Haha. I coached a 47.8 (FAT), 1:51.95 kid who got ZERO interest from any P5 school last year. Despite my long running thread documenting his training and progress, and despite the fact that he'd run 50.07 and 1:52.45 as junior, he got no inquiries outside of a local NAIA. If he hadn't reached out and been persistent with his target school, he wouldn't have even been able to walk on there.
But that makes the point of why it makes sense to advertise. Maybe he will say that his walk-on standards are 1:54 junior year and starting scholarship time is 1:52.5. Your guy would have seen it and contacted him.

I'd say go for it, but the question I have is that at some point, for this to work for you, you'll have to exchange contact info. How do you plan to do that?
How is that difficult? He lists his walk-on times and scholarship times. He lists the name of his school and tells people to use the questionnaire on their website.
OK - sure. That way does provide the contact info. It also provides zero filter for all the trolls (both now and in the future, which could potentially cause a little reputational damage, unless he is the 430 miler). If it were me, I would want to mitigate that if I could.

OR, maybe, there just aren't that many D1 scholarship material, athletes or coaches with money to give that frequent these boards. My athletes are pretty clueless about these boards as are most of the local studs that I talk to.
