Do you even know what the doctorate is in? It sure as hell is not "running science." It might be in biomechanics, or in kinesiology or in finite element analysis, and it sure as is not about making better runners in the sense you mean. So my assumption is that, clearly, you are ignorant of the discipline, embarrassingly so.
Here are 2 papers from my colleague. This is the kind of research that is done at the doctoral level, and it takes years to learn how to do this and then translate it into action that affects people. Or where do you think new developments in shoe technology comes from? The void? Every shoe you buy has had years of study done before it goes to market, so it is surely not true that "very few people care anyway" since no doubt you bought running shoes that help you run- developed in part by PhDs doing hard work.
