I was in south bend this weekend as my parents went there and wanted me to experience campus on a game weekend but I didn’t enjoy it. As of now, I’m leaning against it - basically, if any higher ranked college offered me a spot, I’d accept it
So what are the pros and cons of running at ND? I assume I’ll be sub 9 this year; I already took the SAT and got a score that I’ll be submitting everywhere.
The number of schools that can offer both the academic prestige and athletic experience of Notre Dame are few and far between. Plus there aren't many nicer campuses in the country. Not sure what exactly your expectations are or what you are looking for.
South Bend is a sh1thole outside of campus though.
The con is you’ll become a pretentious d-bag who argues with the Ivy and MIT/CalTech set that your school was just as prestigious when in reality you effectively went to a Midwestern state school where you can’t kiss girls and the weather sucks.
On the pro side you’ll always have a top 10 football team in early September and Jesus will like you.
So you are “assuming” you will be sub 9 and you were on campus just because your parents took you, not for an official or even an unofficial visit. You’re just immediately assuming that not only are you good enough already for ND despite not even having a visit, but you might be TOO GOOD for them. Ya, you already fit the pretentious D-Bag persona of someone who attends ND.
P.S: Sub 9 isn’t good for a highschooler anymore.
dude, if you weren't enthused, done-zo. you have the entire country at your disposal. there are dozens of D1s. there are plenty of D1s with name recognition and academic quality. i would use the visit to ponder what it pointed to you want instead.
fwiw, indulging this idea for a half second, i would then respond, expensive tuition unless you get a full academic or athletic ride, and the stereotype is catholic schools give weak financial aid. XC/TF is a tiny amount of scholarships.

Cons - you get a roommate who's obsessed with "Rudy" and constantly watches and quotes it

They are stacked with 2024 commits so if you’re not a sub 9 you probably won’t make their team. Their roster is small!
Price and weather are the only cons. Everything else is a pro. If tou are a senior, you likely won't get a spot.
I care about academics (well, prestige) first and foremost - by far the most important. But I don’t think I’ll be fast enough to get into Stanford
Will you run 8:50 junior year?
Stanford is very liberal. Notre Dame is not. Both will cost you $350K.

Will your family be willing to pay full price at a prestigious school, or are you hoping for athletic money?
Would you go to a prestigious school with a terrible team?
Would you go d3 to prestigious Amherst, Williams, MIT, Hopkins etc.?
Athletic money would be nice but not necessary.
I would be willing to a top college with a bad team (though how many are there?) or those D3 you mentioned.

Vanderbilt, Rice, UCLA, Cal, Duke, Northwestern, Brown, Rice + Patriot League and bottom 2/3 of Ivies.

So you’re picking a college/running program based on rankings? I’d say you’re badly misguided.
If you think NAU is as good academically as Notre Dame, you are misguided. And if you think Notre Dame is as fast as NAU, you are misguided.
