Just saw this clip about Valencia’s elite runners not getting a preferential starting line position by the even organisers. Seems like a bit of a crazy oversight. Not sure if the runners times were taken from the gun or when crossing over the start line but when world records are potentially on the line a second or two lost at the start from a bad starting position could make all the difference.
Not sure if this race was organised by the same people who organise Valencia 10k but the start line of that race was absolute carnage and saw a bunch of athletes fall and get crushed throwing the whole start into chaos. If it's the same organisers then they have a lot of work to do.

Obviously, elite/invited runners should be given a preferential starting line. But the best local race start (and this can be used for many races behind the elite start was some years ago- they had us line up about 10 meters behind the start line.
The timing company announced:
Anyone who can break 15:00 come up to the line- a couple guys walked up.
Anyone who can break 16:00 come up the line- a bunch of us walked up.
They went with 17:00 then 18:00 then said- everyone else come up to the line.
There were no overweight warriors or little kids who thought they were fast up front and it was a smooth start.
Corrals work the same but- if you walked up to the line when called in this case, you put yourself on display.
