This whole House/Speaker thing fascinates me. It seems that gerrymandering gets everything to a screeching halt. All these extremist GOPers who want all there extremist positions fulfilled without any compromise. This might take a couple more month. Maybe nothing will be done in the House until the next Presidential election. I wouldn't be surprised.

At what point will the Dems try to peel off moderates and battleground district GOP members with a unity plan? Elect Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker, fund the government through the 2024 elections with a compromise budget that freezes spending on most programs through January 1, 2025, continues aid to Ukraine and Israel, and a written pledge to not raise taxes during this Congress. In addition, Republicans that come along will be appointed to key committees and committee chair positions like Judicial to minimize the likes of Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, MTG, and other firebrands. This would also help corporate/centrist Dems to marginalize its loudest fringe members.

Yes, the Republicans would likely get primaried, but I think that the electorate is tiring of both the Trump caucus and The Squad. They are pining for functioning government and compromise. Wall Street would also like to see stability and predictability from D.C.

I don't think he is going to get through. This is just swinging back and forth between the M#GA loyalists/McCarthy slayers and the McCarthy loyalists/M#GA doubters. The only way something gets done is if the McCarthy loyalists do a deal with the Dems for support. The M#GA loyalists want a government shutdown and will use the speaker fight to get one. So, it will be up to the McCarthy loyalists to break the deadlock and avoid a shutdown by doing a deal with the dems.
