In his editorial New Rule, Bill warns that college life has become a day spa combined with a North Korean reeducation camp, where students are indoctrinated ...
Until some corporations set some examples by not hiring exclusively college graduates, nothing will change.
Colleges in the US, were not originally job credential mills. Generally, 10% of the population had at least an undergraduate degree prior to the 1960s. Sadly, Rudy happened. We decided to let dumb, try hard people we were sympathetic to BS their way to a degree giving them the auspices of intellectual capacity and nothing more.
I don’t understand why it’s always framed as college vs. no college. It’s much more specific then that. If you’re going to be a doctor then you better damn go to college. I don’t want someone performing surgery on me with a public school ged as their credentials. However, if you’re looking to work on trade, which is highly needed, then a four year college degree in women’s studies is a waste of time and money.
I enjoyed that segment, and though I 100% agree with the issue of these elite colleges acting irrational in so many ways and tamping down on free speech, I still believe there's value in college. I was a history major in college. An affordable college. I worked my way into an entirely different profession, but I still cherish the time I spent in school. I don't think being exposed to new ideas (unfortunately one of the things that's not happening as much as it used to), and learning "how to learn" and think critically, is a waste.
I would say - of course excluding schools that specialize in medicine or law or some other specialized discipline - pick an affordable school. Don't go a$$ deep in debt getting your education, and consider it just one step in your overall life's plan.
Some people choose to attend state schools with most majors leading to a job, such as accounting, nursing, physical therapy. Others choose to major in any field they like. Did you know business majors have some of the lowest scores on L.S.A.T? Might be embarrassing as a business marketing major if you take L.S.A.T. and the person sitting next you, a women studies major significantly outscores you.
Despite the horror stories, for most people, going to college is still the best investment you can make in your future. Acting like college is worthless and telling kids not to go at all is just as dumb and detrimental to their financial well-being as telling them to take out a massive loan for a gender studies major.

When is a degree in women's studies not a waste of time and money?
There are many posters on this board who would benefit from taking a course or two in women's studies.
Whether it's worth pursuing a degree in women's studies is a different question. But it still gives you an important skill in life, and that's knowing how to learn. Besides, someone has to major in it, and get a graduate degree in order to teach it to other people. So at least some people can make a career out of majoring in women's studies.
And the above is true about many humanities disciplines. We need some people to teach those subjects to undergraduate students as part of wholistic education. Therefore, we need a certain number of people who can teach them.

When you want to be a rabble-rousing feminist or become a professor of gender studies at Wellesley or other liberal universities.
I see your point, A. It's true that the value of a college degree varies depending on the career path. Some professions demand specialized knowledge and skills that can only be acquired through higher education, like becoming a doctor or an engineer. However, the debate often centers around the broader question of whether a traditional four-year college education is the only path to success.
Also, he talks about how part of Harvard being a not great school to go to is because people like George W. Bush, Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Ron Desantis, etc all went there too.
Moat of his views fall on the Libertarian spectrum, and he's one or a handful of liberals (Johnathon Haidt, Ruy Texiera...maybe a few more) who don't agree with many positions in the Democratic Party.
