The jock sniffers (which is what most of you are) are always going to love a winner. So nothing really has changed but he is getting old now.

I'll be the first one to admit that with how hilly some of his training routes were, and how it seemed he'd prepared adequately, I took it for granted that he'd win Boston.

Probably Boston23. It was unusual for someone with his credentials to have not even been able to podium. However, even his WR in 2022 Berlin wasn't as ecstatic as his 3 performances of Berlin18 (2:01:39), London19 (2:02:37), INEOS (1:59:40). Simply because he barely shaved off 30 seconds when it seemed he was capable of Sub-2. I don't fault him as he is turning 40 next year and it's a miracle he's lasted as long as he has in the Marathon given how short many other World Class Marathoners tend to survive a Marathon career. But, he's now just Messi/Ronaldo in their final stages of their careers. They're still great and will always be remembered but, they've heavily overshadowed by younger talents. Just my opinion.

To be fair, I think he was capable of faster in Berlin 2022 with a slower opening half and if he'd split it similarly to Kiptum, I'd imagine a 2:00:40 was on the table then. I agree with you though.

Did it? I think he's just getting old and he has had a long, highly successful career.

I didn’t like the gimmicky Breaking 2 run either. It was a cheap shortcut to breaking a hallowed barrier and being the first person to do it. Now when Kiptum runs under 2 in a legitimate race, it will seem less special.

Kipchoge is still the marathon GOAT, but he no longer is the best marathoner in the world.
