Would the young man who upset El Guerrouj and Bekele in 2003 have what it takes to mix it up with the likes of Cheptegei, Barega, Jakob and Katir over the past few years?
Of course he would be great if he were now 19 but Eliud was no longer great on the track when he found some magical potion which made him the greatest marathoner in history.
no. his victory in 2003 was a fluke. he hasn't done it since, and was arguably the peak of his career until he moved up to the marathon. just think about it. kipchoge spent most of his career playing 2nd/3rd to guys like lagat, bekele, and hicham. jakob is ultimately better

His victory was NOT a fluke. He ran 12:46 the next year so with super spikes who knows how fast that would be. Would he have won if Hicham and Kenenisa had not been doubling? Probably not. But it wasn’t a fluke.

Eliud's performance in Beijing likely would have been good enough to earn a gold against many fields had he not faced the best 5000m runner in history, no?
If Eluid was able to beat El Guerrouj, the best miler ever and Bekele one of the best 5k/10k runners ever. Both of whom have were full blasting EPO, why is it hard for people to believe he hasn't been using for 2 decades?

Indeed. And that 12:46 was a race where he had to lead his fair share of laps (pacer dropped out before 2k), and became tactical near the end because he was wary of Sihine sitting on him.
Both men closed very hard but Kipchoge still pulled well clear in the homestretch and jogged into the finish line. Still, it made him among the fastest 5000m runners in history at that time.

It's "Eliud", Coevett.
You need help for your obsession Hoady.
These threads are kind of sick.
What would a Kenyan '19 year old' pumped full of EPO and roids do against Jakob in the ABP era with testing introduced to Kenya?
Probably win, but then get busted within weeks.
How would Paavo Nurmi riding a bike do against Jakob?
