I see some people wearing half tights while racing indoors and when its warm outside.I thought you just used them to stay warm. What is the benefits of wearing half tights? does it help you maintain form?

Muscle support, even if minimal.
But helping to keep your quads and hammies warm, even indoors, is always a good thing when you're racing.
Personal preference. I like wearing them indoors in the 800 and mile, but prefer shorts for the 3k on up. And I'll rock 'em in cross or outdoor track for any distance if it's below 40 degrees. I don't know if there's any real benefit, but that's just what I do.
Shorts is always the way to go unless it's too cold. Especially when racing. Tights create resistivity.

You're a real genius.
Bump
Is resistivity even a word? I realize that there is a lot of truthiness in the word but, come on... resistivity?
I've never worn the half tights, but here is a tights related question: Do you go straight tights or do you do the running shorts over tights thing?
Personally, I go all out, I think the shorts thing looks rediculous and makes no sense.
resistivity is actually a physics term, so yes it is a word.
Aye, it is a word
Never put running shorts over any tights.
Under is OK in case you are going to strip down to your shorts.
A very wise man once told me: never put shorts over tights, runners look ridiculous enough already, no need to draw more attention to ourselves. I think the same applies to racing in half tights and a singlet, leave that to the women (I am a big fan of the boyshort for womens uniforms).
You should exhibit more resistivity to spelling ridiculous that way in the future.

Sorry I forgot what I was dealing with here. You would have to actually have a minimal education to know that word.
But tell me what does truthiness mean? Let me help you with your sentence dumb one. "I realize that there is a lot of truth to the word...."
Advice: Don't criticize others about words unless you've taken at least one class in the english language.
Now I have seen everything. Locknload, the man who famously posted a two paragraph rant with no clue to what a "trader" was, is now giving lectures on the English language.
Advice: The doctor must be experimenting with your medication again, stay away from motorized equipment and firearms.
Watch the Colbert Report, my friend, and you will discover the true meaning of the word truthiness. I was merely kidding too. However, I believe truthiness was the word of the year.

Right conclusion (?) wrong reason. Tights hold in heat that your body is trying to release. Thus if you wear tights in a race, you will most certainly over heat, causing your body to work harder.
I laugh every time I see a a runner racing in tights.

Right conclusion, right reasons. From me and you. Someone may find a 3rd reason also like weight increase. Every ounce counts when you're talking seconds.
i think it can be good for training in the cold weather. for example, it was cold where we live, and during yesterday's workout, i had my athletes keep their running pants on. not tights, but the tapered pants. the main reason was b/c i didn't want to risk a hamstring injury in the cold weather--especially for the sprinters who are doing a lot of explosive work.
as far as the half-tights go, i see a lot of mid-distance runners wearing them; but never tried it myself (can't afford 'em! haha).
the russian who won the gold in the 2004 olympic 800 wears half tights. I know I have seen Cragg and lincoln wearing them on a few occasions. Did you laugh at them as they dominated the NCAA a couple years ago. What about BORZAKOVSKIY did you laugh at him while he won the olympic 800.
