It is my understanding that Irene Riggs has a pretty significant injury and is not currently runner. Anyone heard exactly what is wrong. That is a blow to Stanford XC.

She hasn't raced since world xc, so I assume she is injured.
This sort of reminds me of a Zofia Dudek situation. Oftentimes it seems like the stars who get to Stanford injured never really do anything in college. Hopefully I'm wrong. But in the recent past this seems to have occurred to DJ Principe, Brandon McGorty, Zofia Dudek, and a few others.
Talent never goes away. There is a reason they get 4+ years in the NCAA.
Actually, she raced as late as the Penn Relays at the end of April. But even then something might have been wrong, since she withdrew from her individual event and ran only the 4x800.
What is her injury? She posts on Instagram but I don’t see her in a boot or anything. I have to admit I never felt super confident in her having any long term potential but maybe she’ll prove me wrong
Unfortunate for her. I remember some rumors in the Spring. And there likely goes Stanfords chance at podium this year.
Irene Riggs broke the 3200 state meet record on May 20, 2023. She was not injured .
She also won the 800 and 1600.
Maybe it’s too much and that why she is now injured? I’m assuming the 800 had rounds?
FYI, it's possible to have an injury that doesn't require wearing a boot.
Evidently it is a possilble hip injury, MRI to come. She currently is not training and the hope is to be back by PAC 12's if fit enough.
Bummer. She is right up there in terms of talent with Touhy, Valby and Wiley.
Pretty doubtful that the WV 800 had rounds, lol. MD doesn't, I know that for sure. Not even 400. Well, we do have rounds. They're called "regionals" and they're a week or 2 prior.
I would guess, if she ran all 3, there was no relay duty and she jogged 1 or more of those (or could have jogged). Its WV ffs.
Hoping she returns soon. I saw that XC race in NC last year. It was very impressive.

Oh yeah…she’s right up there
(wink, wink) 😉😉
