They mentioned that the GARMIN WATCH they used to measure might have had it's calibration settings messed up when it died and has to be recharged.
Excuse me, a garmin watch was used to measure a 3 mile course? Why isn't this thing wheeled out for accuracy. The whole final mile zig zags so much that it is going to destroy GPS measurement accuracy. Don't care how close you calibrate that thing. Amateur hour.
it's funny every year a few letsrun fanatics drive all the way to woodbridge to look for solid evidence that the course is short. every year they come back empty handed.
Yes yes, that's just part of why XC courses are not meant to be compared head to head. Also no standards for measuring them. And it's right there in the significant figures. If it is reported as 5km, it's not presented as being as precise as 5000m. That's basic metrology, people. Garmin watches, HA! "Lookie there Bill, this course took me 50 minutes to walk in boots, so I will call it 5k." "That sounds fine, Georgie. How's your bad knee today?"

It is addressing the teams who competed Friday though, so Red/White division, about the extra length.
I think this is a good lesson to coaches and athletes that COMPETITION is what matters, not times. Us California coaches forget that sometimes. Especially ones in Southern California. Clovis Invite is coming up soon and that course doesn’t change. I believe that is the real test of how fast kids are.

This is the same thing I said about Liberty Bell, and the same kind of response. Notice that those guys do not produce any sort measure, and reply with, essentially, "Trust us, it is not short."
